A badly beaten wife underwent reconstructive surgery after an alleged abusive husband reportedly punched her in the face each time she received a Facebook Like.
The Irish Mirror reports that authorities rescued Adolfina Camelli Ortigoza, 21, of Asuncion, Uruguay, last week after her husband, 32-year-old Pedro Heriberto Galeano, reportedly held her against her will and physically abused her regularly.
According to the victim’s lawyer, Galeano would spiral into a fit of rage when people showed his wife positive attention on her Facebook page, and would relentlessly beat her each time someone reacted to her social media posts.
Later, the suspect reportedly took over Ortigoza’s Facebook and began posting photos of her. Each time someone hit the “Like” button on her new photos, the reported jealous husband would punch her in the face, according to the victim’s attorney.
Ortigoza’s face was apparently disfigured after the beatings to the point she was unrecognizable.
“Her mouth was all broken, she was very damaged, her skin was hanging off because of the blows,” a friend of the victim said, according to the Irish Mirror. “He controlled the victim’s social networking sites, he controlled the messages and photos, and for every ‘like’ she received from her friends, the woman received a beating because he accused her of having a relationship with them.”
The suspect’s father eventually turned his son in after he reportedly felt the victim was close to death after the last beating.
Authorities arrested Galeano and charged him with deprivation of liberty and coercion and attempted femicide. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison.
